Questions We Get on the Phone Every Week
If you don't see your question here, call the studio directly — we'd rather answer it before you book than have you guess.
What exactly is a "sole grind," and do I need one?
A sole grind is a hand-shaped change to the underside of a club head — adjusting camber, trailing-edge relief, sole width, or heel/toe relief so the sole interacts with the turf the way your specific swing needs. Not everyone needs a grind; some golfers are well served by a stock sole. We only recommend a grind when your low-point read and strike pattern point to a real mismatch worth correcting.
Is a sole grind only for wedges?
No. Wedges are the most commonly ground clubs because short-game turf interaction is so visible, but we grind irons just as often — particularly camber and sole width adjustments across a full set, and trailing-edge relief for players who catch the turf early on approach shots.
What is a low-point read, and how do you measure it?
Low point is where your swing arc actually bottoms out relative to the golf ball. We measure it using a divot board and face-tape strike marks across a series of swings, then average the pattern rather than relying on a single swing. It's the starting number for almost every grind decision we make.
Will grinding my sole void the manufacturer's warranty?
Most club manufacturers' warranties cover manufacturing defects, not cosmetic or performance alterations, and a sole grind is generally treated the same way a shaft swap or loft bend is. We always flag this before starting work so you can make the call with full information, and we never grind a club without your sign-off on the specific plan.
How long does a grind session take?
A single-club consult and grind typically runs 30–45 minutes. A full iron and wedge set, paired with a low-point read and fitting, usually runs 75–100 minutes. We block real time on the schedule so no session gets rushed.
Can I bring clubs I didn't buy from you?
Yes. A large share of our grind work is on clubs purchased elsewhere. We're happy to grind, regrip, or reshaft equipment from any source, though we'll always tell you honestly if a particular head isn't a good candidate for the grind you're asking about.
Do you offer regrinds if my game or turf conditions change?
Yes, and it's common. A grind that suited a shallower attack angle a few seasons ago may need adjusting if your swing changes, or if you've moved to a course with firmer or softer turf. We keep grind tickets on file so a regrind starts from your known history, not a blank slate.
Do you carry demo clubs, or is this grinding-only?
We stock demo heads and shafts across several major brands for head-to-head comparison during full fittings. See the Our Brands page for the current lineup.
How far in advance should I book?
Single-club consults can often be scheduled within a week. Full bag sessions and busy-season Saturdays book out further, so we recommend reserving at least two weeks ahead if your schedule is fixed.
Do you offer walk-in service?
Walk-ins are welcome for quick questions or to see the bench, but grinding and fitting sessions run by appointment so we can give each client a full, unhurried block of time.
